The Sheffield Parent Carer Forum was established in 2008 to bring together parents of disabled children across Sheffield to support each other, share information, and influence policy. Our main aim is to make sure the needs of our children are met.
The Forum is an independent, parent-led organisation. It is run by a Management Committee whose members have links with parent support groups across the city, such as the Sheffield Down Syndrome Association, ACCT, Ray of Hope, Epilepsy Action, and many others. They are supported by two part-time staff.
The Forum operates a two-tiered membership. Full membership is open to all parents and carers of children and young people (0-19) with disabilities and/or special educational needs who live in or access services in Sheffield. Professionals and practitioners who work with disabled youngsters can join as associate members.
The Forum is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.
Our main funders are the Department of Education, Awards for All, and Sheffield City Council (via a service-level agreement).
We are committed to working in partnership with Health, Education and Social Care in order to improve services for our children.
